Attractions - Bela-Bela is a Sepedi (Northern Sotho) word meaning "water that boils on its own" or when literally translated, "boiling boiling" and refers to the town's world renowned hot water springs which were discovered in the early 1800's by the local Batswana tribes.
The spring water flows strongly at 22 000 liters per hour and reaches a temperature of 52° Celsius. It is rich in minerals such as calcium carbonate and sodium chloride as well as other mineral salts that are beneficial to human ailments such as rheumatism.
Bela Bela is also the gateway to the Waterberg area, an unique fauna and flora heritage of unimaginable value for local tourism. The area is malaria free and while the summers are hot, the winters are mild.
